To deepen the collaboration between the University of Macau and the higher education and research institutes of the Greater Bay Area and mainland China on nurturing excellence and research cooperation, UM has launched the Joint PhD Programmes with the following partner universities/institutes:

Prospective students recommended by partner university/institute can apply for admission to the Joint PhD Programmes only through the online application system of UM during the application period. Applicants should fulfill UM’s general admission requirements for PhD degree programmes.
To achieve the aims above, students under these joint agreements will be entitled to funding support of MOP6,250 – 12,500 per month. Selection will be based on recommendations and evaluations of both parties.
After students are admitted into the Joint PhD Programmes, they will undertake their first year of PhD study at UM and study at the partner university/institute for another three years to complete the UM PhD degree. Students will be jointly supervised by supervisors from UM and the partner university/institute. They will receive a PhD degree from UM upon completion of the registered programme.
Students will be bounded by the respective agreements of the joint programmes and UM’s “General Rules Governing PhD and Other Doctoral Degree Programmes”. Students are not allowed to quit the programmes unless approval is given by UM and the partner institute. In the case of misrepresentation, fraudulence, and non-disclosure of information in the admission applications, student’s studies and financial support will be terminated. Students who had a history of termination will be banned from applications for admission for one year. UM reserves the right to collect any financial support previously provided to the students concerned.
