In the Academic Year 2026/2027, postgraduate programmes which are delivered and conducted at the Transitional Research and Education Sites, will cover disciplines including artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, electromechanical engineering, finance, public health, visual communication design, etc. The programmes will be conducted through the following arrangements:

  1. Classes at the Transitional Research and Education Site of the University of Macau’s Campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin (hereinafter referred to as “Transitional Research and Education Site”) (daytime);
  2. Classes on the Main Campus (daytime or night time).

The classes arrangement will be determined by the academic unit concerned and will be notified upon enrollment.

Transitional Research and Education Site of the University of Macau’s Campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin

  • Overview: 

    • It is equipped with lecture theatres, classrooms, teaching laboratories, shared offices for postgraduate students, conference rooms, etc.
    • Two State Key Laboratories (Hengqin branches) and several joint laboratories have been put into operation.
    • It encompasses hardware, software, network resources and services necessary for research and task completion. The access control system and security personnels on duty further ensure the safety and reassurance of the site, where students’ daily needs are well addressed.

  • Supporting Services:

    • With over 40 high-performance GPU-powered computers to meet the academic and experimental needs of various disciplines.
    • The on-site public canteen delivers high-standard food services for staff and students.

First Phase of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town – University of Macau

  • Location: Dezhi Plaza, No. 1566 Haojiang Road, Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin

  • Overview: 

    • The total gross floor area is 65,000 square metres, comprising teaching spaces, industry-academia-research facilities, and a student activity centre, with complete supporting amenities provided.
    • It is scheduled to come into operation in the Academic Year 2026/2027.

2. Key Benefits of the Transitional Research and Education Site

  • Seamless Learning Across Macao and Hengqin, with Certified Success

    • In December 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission issued Master Plan of the Development of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, indicating that “qualified Macao colleges and universities, approved by the Ministry of Education, shall be permitted to conduct undergraduate and graduate education and experiments in the Cooperation Zone. Employed Macao teachers, committed to both the motherland and Macao, can conduct cross-border teaching in the zone; students from the Chinese mainland receiving cross-border teaching in the zone will be able to obtain academic diplomas and degree certificates from Macao.”
    • In November 2024, the Ministry of Education approved the University of Macau to take the lead in delivering teaching and research activities in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, with the establishment of a New Campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone.
    • With integrated and unified operations, the admission criteria, training plans, and graduation requirements at the New Campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin are fully aligned with those of the Main Campus.

    • The Transitional Research and Education Site has achieved resource coordination with the Main Campus. This includes:
      • Intranet interconnection, ensuring that faculty members and students can seamlessly access teaching and research resources across both campuses;
